YES on Measure 111: Right to Health Care

Keeping our families healthy is a top priority — more so now than ever before. Yet many Oregonians do not have access to the appropriate, affordable care they need. A recent study found that the cost of healthcare is affecting many Oregonians and particularly BIPOC Oregonians with 38% reporting that the cost of their health care was a major concern. The same poll found that nearly four in ten Oregonians have reported taking at least one action that they identified as detrimental to their health, including skipping medications, and delaying or canceling doctor’s appointments, because of the cost.

All Oregonians deserve to have access to the affordable healthcare they need. That’s why Family Forward Oregon is supporting YES on Measure 111.

Measure 111 enshrines healthcare as a human right in the Oregon Constitution. It would amend the Oregon Constitution to add language requiring that the state provide access to cost-effective, clinically appropriate, and affordable health care. This would not only obligate the state to provide adequate funding for healthcare but would also protect our rights to obtain the appropriate care that we and our families need to thrive.

Join us in voting YES on Measure 111!

YES on Measure 112: Oregonians United to End Slavery

Oregon still has language in its constitution allowing the use of slavery and involuntary servitude as a form of punishment for a crime. No one should face the threat of slavery and this antiquated and racist language must be removed from our constitution. This morally repugnant and dehumanizing “slavery loophole” must go.

Measure 112 would amend the Oregon constitution to remove language that allows the use of slavery and involuntary servitude as criminal punishments. Voting YES to remove this relic from our state constitution will uphold our values as Oregonians – and as people.

YES on Measure 113: Hold Politicians Accountable

Politicians should be held to the same standards as the rest of us. That means real consequences when they don’t show up to do the job we elected them to do. Yet time and time again politicians have walked out of the Capitol, stalling progress on important issues like school funding and gun control.

In 2019, the largest increase in school funding for our state was scheduled for a vote – and then a handful of lawmakers were nowhere to be found. And despite overwhelming public support, our legislature has been unable to pass legislation to close loopholes in background checks for gun purchases – all because a group of politicians chose to walk away from their jobs for days at a time.

This November we have an opportunity to prevent this from happening again. Measure 113, the Hold Politicians Accountable measure, would require that any lawmaker with 10 or more unexcused absences in a legislative session would be ineligible to run for reelection in the future.

Without Measure 113, we won’t be able to make progress of some of the pressing issues that impact mothers and caregivers, like passing legislation that keeps abortion accessible in Oregon. When politicians pick and choose when to show up to work, it puts all of our rights in jeopardy. Let’s ensure that the people we elect to represent us do their jobs and are held accountable!

Measure 114: Reduction of Gun Violence Act

Our hearts filled with grief and anger following the mass shootings earlier this year in Texas and New York. And these were just two of the hundreds of mass shootings in this country so far this year. In fact, as of this year, gun deaths are now the leading cause of death among children in our country.

As mothers and caregivers, this violence always hits us really hard — compounding the individual and collective trauma these all-too-common acts of gun violence create. This November, join us as we turn our anger into action by supporting Measure 114, the Reduction of Gun Violence Act.This measure will reduce gun violence and keep our communities safer by banning the sale of large capacity magazines and requiring that gun owners complete a safety class and pass a background check.

Some big things must change to make this country one where all our children, and their families, are safe and thriving. Measure 114 is a good start. We hope you’ll join the fight alongside us as we advocate to make Oregon a safer place for our children and families.
