National Day Without Child Care – Building Toward Universal Child Care

Category: News

On May 11, we strike. Providers and parents are walking out for universal child care.

This marks the 5th consecutive Day Without Child Care—and the fight has never been more urgent. Child care costs keep climbing while providers absorb the strain. Now our communities face direct attacks.

Our funds have been frozen. Armed ICE agents have raided our children’s safe spaces and workplaces. Black and Brown families are being scapegoated. Enough.

This year’s DWOCC is just the beginning. We’re building toward sustained action in our local communities and the first-ever Childcare Movement Convention this summer. Join us.

Our demand is clear: universal child care. Period.

We’re not just asking—we’re building the campaign that will win it. A system that guarantees quality care for every child, keeps costs affordable for families, pays providers what they’re worth, respects the diversity of family needs, centers racial and gender justice, and finally drags our child care system into the 21st century.

Our sister organization, For All Families Oregon (FAFO), is hosting a party in the park to commemorate the national strike! Learn more and sign up for the party at forallfamilies.org/dwocc.
