Every day, caregivers support our community and make it possible for the economy to function. Without this vital workforce behind the workforce, our society as we know it would come to a screeching halt. The fact that caregivers receive so little recognition and commensurate compensation has everything to do with our systems — rooted in racism and sexism — that allow us and our work to remain invisible and under-supported.
At The Mother PAC, we know having a PAC isn’t enough if the voices of mothers and caregivers are not centered and leading the work that we do. As such, each committee member shares the belief that all women, no matter our differences, deserve to face fewer barriers and have more opportunities. In order to see that vision come to life, our committee members agree that we must address the ways that the United States’ sexist and racist culture disproportionately harms women who identify as women of color, especially Black and Indigenous women.
